100% Organic Livestock Feeds – preparing for 2005 Organic Eprints

A project entitled “100% Organic Livestock Feeds – Preparing for 2005” looking at the implications for organic farmers of the removal of the current derogation to use a percentage of non-organic livestock feeds. 1) Researching the required volume of feed stuff, in particular protein crops, and potential for feed production within Wales. 2) Researching the suitability of alternative protein sources, and evaluating livestock systems regarding the potential for a reduction in energy and protein levels. 3) Proposing strategies for the development and stimulation of the industry.

Feeding strategies in Swiss organic farming to improve food quality and animal health Organic Eprints

At the moment, Switzerland has about 6,500 organic farmers, with 11 % of the agriculture area managed organically. The main regulations in organic farming are The Schweizer Bio-Verordnung (Swiss Government Regulation for Organic farming). These regulations are increasingly adapted to the EU-Regulation for organic farming. The BIO SUISSE regulation has further requirements. Nearly all organic farmers are BIO SUISSE farmers. The symbol of BIO SUISSE is a bud.

Final project report: EEC 2092/91 (ORGANIC) Revision Organic Eprints

This report summarises the findings of the project that have been presented in a number of separate reports and publications. In the Chapters 2 to 5 the approach, results and conclusions of the project are summarised, following the structure of the different work packages. Chapter 2 summarises the work on ethical values of organic agriculture. Chapter 3 looks at the differences in the implementation of Regulation (EEC) 2092/91 across Europe and compares the European Regulation with international standards. Chapters 4 and 5 summarise the findings that relate to reducing the dependency on non-organic inputs in the case of feed and seed.
